Topology creation and correction in ArcGIS
Objective: - Topology creation and correction of errors in ArcGIS 10.3.
Materials/softwares used: - ArcGIS10.3.
Procedure:-
● Initially add Geodatabase in ARCMAP10.3 using Add Data button,
● Next step is to go in to the Arc Catalog and go in to the respective geodatabase and right click on the Feature class>New>Topology to create a topology for that particular feature class
● You can validate a portion of a topology using the tools on the Topology toolbar.
o Click Validate Topology In Specified Area and drag a box around the area you want to validate. The features that fall within the bounding box will be validated.
o Click Validate Topology In Current Extent . Areas that are not currently visible on the map are not validated.
● Continue fixing topology errors as needed.
● Now after clicking next a window will appear where there will be default cluster tolerance as small as possible and then proceed
You can fix errors either through the Error Inspector or by clicking them on the map with the Fix Topology Error tool.
● Open the Error Inspector and search for errors, or click the Fix Topology Error tool on the Topology toolbar.
● Click the error in the Error Inspector list or use the Fix Topology Error tool to click it on the map.
The error is drawn in black on the map.
● Right-click the error in the list or on the map and click one of the available fixes. The fixes listed depend on the type of error.
For example, to fix a Must Not Overlap error by merging an overlapping polygon into another polygon, right-click the error, click Merge, then choose the feature into which to merge the error feature.
● Validate the topology again to ensure the edit was correct.
